This Sky Store rival was designed to let you buy and keep films and boxsets of television shows without a monthly subscription. This digital purchases were transferred to your Virgin Media set-top box, where they could be accessed forever.
But with the store set to shut, you have just weeks left to sort out your purchased film and boxsets.
The good news is that your purchases aren't disappearing forever, but you do need to move them over to Rakuten TV to keep watching them. Beyond purchases, the app offers thousands of films and TV shows to watch, plus live TV channels at no extra cost.
Virgin Media said in a blog post: "Rakuten TV is the new home for the movies and TV box sets you’ve bought from us, and also offers the latest movies to buy, thousands of movies and TV box sets to watch for free, and free Live TV channels. Rakuten TV gives you even more to watch on your Virgin TV 360 box, V6 box or Stream box – from new releases to ad-supported films."
This platform can be accessed right through the app on your Virgin TV box.
To transfer your library over, you'll want to start by heading to the Virgin Media Store website and logging in with your usual account details.
Once you're in, look for the option to transfer to Rakuten TV and tap on it. From there, just follow the prompts on screen — the system walks you through everything.
Don't already have a Rakuten TV account? No worries. An account will be created for you automatically during the process.
However, you'll need the email address tied to your Virgin Media Store account handy before you begin.
If you can't remember which one you used, open the Store app on your Virgin TV box and check under My Account.
Once the transfer's complete, all your purchased titles will appear in your Rakuten TV library, ready to watch.
If you would rather rent movies instead of purchase them, this process hasn't changed. You can keep renting films through Virgin Media Store exactly as you always have, so there's no need to worry on that front.
There are also five dedicated Rakuten TV channels — covering everything from action to comedy to sci-fi — available on channels 460 to 464 if you're a Stream or 360 box customer.
