Spotify now requires Family and Duo members to scan a rotating QR code on the plan manager's phone, verifying they live nearby or risk losing access.
If you're included in a Family plan, but not geographically close to the plan's owner, and think that you can just ask the owner to send you the QR code so that you can scan it remotely, Spotify is trying to mitigate that risk too. Its documentation suggests that you scan the code in person because it changes "every few seconds".
