The DVSA has introduced a new MOT rule allowing ECE-approved LED replacement bulbs in halogen headlamps for class 3, 4, 5, and 7 vehicles from 14 October.
The update applies to tricycles, cars, larger passenger vehicles and goods vehicles, but excludes motorcycles, HID conversions, and full LED unit replacements.
Vehicles fitted with these replacement bulbs must permanently display a secure approval sticker in an easily visible location for MOT testers.
Garages will issue an MOT failure if the approval sticker is missing, unreadable, tampered with, or does not match the bulb fitted.
Drivers risk a fine of up to £2,500 and three penalty points if they drive a vehicle that has failed its MOT for a dangerous fault.
